Netgear has entered the business cybersecurity market with its acquisition of Exium, a company that specializes in secure cloud-based networking.
This strategic move is part of Netgear’s long-term vision to provide small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with streamlined, high-performance connectivity solutions. By incorporating Exium’s technology, Netgear plans to go beyond traditional VPNs, offering a comprehensive Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) framework that addresses both networking and security.
Making Enterprise-Grade Security Manageable for SMEs
Netgear’s acquisition of Exium will enable the company to offer a unified platform combining wired and wireless networking with built-in security features, making enterprise-grade protection accessible to smaller IT teams. This solution will simplify the process for SMEs, which often struggle with complex or fragmented security tools.
“AI has changed the threat landscape for businesses of all sizes, but many solutions for SMEs are either too difficult to implement or require multiple separate tools to manage,” said Pramod Badjate, President and GM of Netgear for Business. “By integrating Exium’s SASE solution into our Insight cloud management platform, we can offer our customers a seamless solution that’s easy to deploy and manage.”
A New Era of Secure Networking Devices
Netgear also envisions improved hardware that integrates advanced security functions right out of the box. The company aims to become a leading provider of VPN routers for business users by offering secure, ready-to-use routers and switches that combine performance with robust protection.
The core of Exium’s platform is a zero-trust architecture, which fits into Netgear’s broader strategy to deliver a leading Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA) solution for its customer base. This approach ensures that only authorized users and devices can access sensitive data.
Exium’s Vision for Cybersecurity
Exium was designed from the ground up to offer cybersecurity solutions for SMEs, which often lack comprehensive protection against growing cyber threats. Farooq Khan, CEO of Exium, highlighted the shared vision between the two companies: “We are excited to join Netgear and create an integrated network and security solution that addresses the specific needs of small and medium enterprises.”
