Scania, the global transport solutions company, has confirmed it was the target of a cybersecurity incident. According to the company, hackers used stolen credentials to break into its Financial Services systems. The attackers managed to access insurance claim documents and are now threatening to leak this data online if their demands are not met.
Erich Kron, a Security Awareness Advocate at KnowBe4, said the attack highlights the ongoing risk of stolen login details. “Stolen credentials continue to be a major security concern and were used in this case,” Kron explained. “This shows why stronger security measures, like multi-factor authentication (MFA), are so important. While MFA isn’t perfect, especially phishing-resistant types can greatly improve protection. This applies not only to employees but also to external vendors and others who need occasional access.”
Kron also warned that victims should stay alert. Hackers might use the stolen information to launch social engineering scams.
Scania said the impact of the breach was limited. The company has already informed privacy regulators about the incident.
