The European Commission has launched two funding calls totaling €145.5 million aimed at empowering small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and public administrations to enhance their cybersecurity measures. The funding will also support the integration of cutting-edge cybersecurity research.
The first call, part of the EU’s Digital Europe Programme, offers €55 million in grants. Of this, €30 million is specifically allocated to improving cybersecurity in hospitals and healthcare providers. The goal is to help these institutions better detect, monitor, and respond to cyber threats, especially ransomware attacks. This initiative is designed to bolster the resilience of Europe’s healthcare system, particularly in light of current geopolitical tensions, and aligns with the EU’s action plan on cybersecurity for healthcare facilities.
The second call, under the Horizon Europe Programme, has a budget of €90.5 million. This funding will focus on supporting the development and application of generative AI for cybersecurity, as well as new advanced cybersecurity tools and techniques. Additionally, the call includes funding for privacy-enhancing technologies and post-quantum cryptography to prepare for the future of digital security.
The deadlines for applying are 7 October for the first call and 12 November for the second call. Detailed eligibility criteria and other application documents can be accessed on the EU’s Funding and Tenders portal.
