A recent independent audit has confirmed NordVPN as one of the top VPN services available today, with experts praising its performance, security, and speed across all tested categories.
West Coast Labs conducted the audit, evaluating NordVPN based on standards set by the Anti-Malware Testing Standards Organization (AMTSO). The results highlight NordVPN’s strong security features, high-speed performance, and user-friendly design.

Key Findings of the NordVPN Audit:
- VPN Functionality: Experts tested core features like auto-launch on boot, auto-connect, split tunneling, and the kill switch. These functions were found to work reliably and consistently, with the kill switch being crucial for user security.
- Speed Performance: Speed tests were conducted in seven regions (US, UK, France, Netherlands, Germany, East Asia, and Australia). NordVPN showed impressive results with 15.2% faster downloads, 12.4% faster uploads, and 7.9% lower latency compared to other VPNs.
- Website Accessibility: The VPN service passed 100% of website accessibility tests, successfully accessing the 100 most visited websites with minimal CAPTCHA occurrences.
- System Impact: NordVPN’s software had a minimal effect on system performance during web browsing, ensuring a smooth user experience.
- Connection Time: NordVPN scored an average connection time of 1.67 seconds across the 10 locations tested, indicating quick setup times for users.
- Security and Leak Protection: The VPN passed all eight security leak tests, including checks for IP address, DNS, WebRTC, and IPv6 leaks. It also passed advanced scenarios like the split-tunneling flaw and the TunnelVision attack.
Briedis added, “This evaluation reflects the work we’ve put into making NordVPN fast, reliable, and secure. It’s good to see those goals confirmed.”
NordVPN is committed to transparency, regularly submitting its software to independent audits. Last March, it published the results of a security audit conducted between June and August 2024, which revealed 31 non-critical findings—most of which were addressed immediately.
In February 2025, NordVPN also reaffirmed its no-log policy with a fifth independent audit since 2018, further solidifying its reputation for privacy and security.
