SaaS network provider Remote. It has released a new hardware device called Jumpbox, offering businesses a simpler alternative to traditional VPN tools. Developed in partnership with IoT connectivity firm Embedded Works, the device is designed for plug-and-play remote access without manual network configuration.
Remote. It CEO Ryo Koyama described VPNs as outdated and fragile. “Each endpoint can only connect to one VPN at a time,” he explained. “To connect multiple networks, you need to stack VPNs, which increases complexity and risk. If one configuration fails, the whole network can be affected.”
Jumpbox, by contrast, provides a stable, always-on connection. It allows administrators to monitor, update, and troubleshoot multiple networks from a single point of access. Koyama emphasized that this centralized approach avoids many of the weak points found in traditional VPNs.
Although VPNs remain common in the business world—especially among companies looking for full control through VPN routers—Remote. It believes its zero-configuration solution offers a more reliable option.
Jumpbox is powered by a 1.8 GHz CPU and comes equipped with:
- 2 USB 2.0 ports
- 2 USB 3.0 ports
- 1 Gigabit Ethernet port
- 1 HDMI port
- 3.5mm audio jack
- Support for Wi-Fi 6, 5G, Bluetooth, Starlink
- 64GB microSD storage
The device comes preloaded with Remote. It software and uses encrypted tunnels for secure remote access, including over cellular networks. This makes it especially useful for companies managing devices at remote or distributed sites.
While Remote. It has not officially labeled Jumpbox as a Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA) solution, the device includes key features often found in ZTNA platforms: centralized control, encrypted connections, and access to devices without exposing them to the public internet.
“There are millions of IoT and internet-connected devices without proper remote management systems,” said Andy Do, President of Embedded Works. “And for those that do, it often costs a lot to license each device annually.”
Jumpbox is currently available on Amazon for $99.99, which includes a one-year Remote. It Business Plan with unlimited device access and technical support.
