VirtualMacOSX, a company that provides cloud-based Apple Macintosh services, has allegedly suffered a data breach. The personal information of 10,000 customers was reportedly leaked on a well-known cybercrime forum.
The breach was first spotted by the SafetyDetectives Cybersecurity Team. According to their research shared with Hackread.com, the leaked data appeared genuine. The dataset was posted on a forum famous for hosting stolen data and database downloads. Anyone with an account on the forum could access the files simply by replying to or liking the post.
This is the same forum where stolen or fake data has appeared in the past. It previously listed a fake 1.2 billion record Facebook database, an outdated AT&T database that contained some new information, and allegedly stolen data from Coca-Cola Europacific Partners.
The leaked VirtualMacOSX data was spread across three text files: ‘tblcontacts,’ ‘tbltickets,’ and ‘tblclients.’ Together, these files contained 176,000 lines of data.
VirtualMacOSX has been offering cloud-based Macintosh services since 2012 and serves customers in 102 countries. However, SafetyDetectives said they could not fully confirm that all of the leaked data belonged to VirtualMacOSX. The team did not attempt to test any credentials out of ethical concerns.
