Surfshark has introduced a groundbreaking new feature called Everlink, promising to minimize the impact of dropped VPN connections while keeping users securely connected. The patented technology, which Surfshark describes as an “industry-first,” is designed to recover lost VPN connections automatically, reducing the risk of IP address exposure.
Unlike traditional VPN kill switches, which disconnect the internet when a VPN connection fails, Everlink works silently in the background to restore the VPN connection without disrupting the user’s internet access. Available by default on the WireGuard protocol, Everlink is now accessible across all platforms, including iOS, macOS, Windows, Android, and Linux.
“Taking Connection Stability to the Next Level”
Chief Technology Officer at Surfshark, Donatas Budvytis, emphasized the importance of connection stability, saying, “While other metrics like the number of servers might seem important, connection stability is something that truly makes the difference to the user experience.”
Everlink acts as a “self-healing infrastructure,” allowing users to remain securely connected even if their VPN connection drops. By reconfiguring the VPN tunnel, Everlink ensures that the user’s connection is re-established without requiring them to manually reconnect to the VPN.
“If the VPN is a tunnel that secures your traffic, imagine Surfshark Everlink as another one that secures that VPN tunnel. If one connection goes down, you’re automatically switched to another, so you stay connected and secure,” Budvytis explained.
This innovative approach offers a seamless experience, especially during network maintenance, as the tool reroutes traffic to the nearest available server without disrupting the connection.

Surfshark Everlink aims to provide users with not only a stable connection but also enhanced privacy and security. An unstable VPN connection can lead to potential IP address exposure, which could leave users vulnerable, particularly those who rely on VPNs for privacy, such as journalists, activists, and whistleblowers.
While traditional VPN services use a kill switch to eliminate the risk of exposure by cutting off internet access during a drop, Everlink offers a more seamless approach by keeping the user connected securely.
Users can still opt to use the kill switch if they prefer, but Surfshark’s goal is to offer a more stable and secure alternative to avoid disruptions in the first place.
