NordVPN has launched an updated VPN app for Linux, making privacy more accessible for the Linux community. The new version features rich visual elements designed to simplify the use of advanced VPN features.
“This launch is a natural progression of our mission to make cybersecurity accessible and seamless for everyone,” said Marijus Briedis, CTO of NordVPN. “Whether you’re a seasoned Linux user or new to the OS, we believe this GUI will enhance your NordVPN experience.”
Briedis explained that the new graphical user interface (GUI) brings the simplicity of NordVPN’s other applications to Linux for the first time. At the same time, it maintains the speed, security, and reliability users expect from one of the leading VPN providers.
Now, Linux users can easily access all NordVPN features, such as Threat Protection, Double VPN, and a kill switch, with just a couple of clicks—whether they are experienced with VPNs or just getting started.
NordVPN emphasized that the new GUI version is not a completely new app but an upgrade to its existing command-line interface (CLI) software.
However, some features, like Meshnet, are still only available via the CLI version, which remains fully supported.
“Linux users are an incredibly important part of our community, and we’re thrilled to make their experience even better,” Briedis added.
The new GUI app also supports post-quantum encryption, an upgrade released last October, and NordWhisper, a censorship-resistant protocol.
NordVPN is joining other VPN providers, such as Surfshark, ExpressVPN, and Private Internet Access (PIA), in offering a full GUI for their Linux clients.
How to Upgrade to NordVPN GUI for Linux
Installing the new NordVPN GUI is simple for users familiar with the previous CLI version. The installation process remains the same, with one key difference: the GUI is now available through DEB and RPM packages, with a Snap version expected soon.
